Interview

Interview
A: Your friends around you all call you "Ben Ye", can I also use this title to chat with you?
Ben: Of course it's okay. This title has been used for over a decade and sounds very friendly.
A: During the epidemic, it seems like the whole world is about to collapse. But you have been working behind closed doors, creating the "Bottle. Quiet" and "CHINA Story" series of works respectively.
Ben: Indeed, during the pandemic, everyone was in an abnormal state of mind. I had to settle down behind closed doors to avoid causing chaos in society. The artist's studio is a dream workshop, where one can see the world with another eye and heal the pain of the soul in another way. One can also enter their own world to find their own Eden and enjoy the spiritual happiness of self-improvement.
A: My lord, why did you think of creating with the theme of the "Four Great Beauties" of ancient China at that time?
Ben: Excess information can clog your brain, prevent independent thinking, and affect your normal life. A disaster, almost all media in the world are negative, adding insult to injury. So, I can only try my best to channel my thoughts and emotions to a bright and beautiful channel, so that my soul can receive comfort and peace.
In confusion, leapfrog thinking suddenly emerged; In Greek mythology, there are the "three goddesses" of beauty and beauty, and in ancient China, there were also stories of the "four beauties". Such a beautiful theme can be created completely? Why not? "
A: My lord, your series of works titled "CHINA Stories" have a cultural heritage of Tang and Song painting and "Chinese chromatography" in terms of expression, as well as characteristics of Western modern art. Do you think it can achieve the style you expected?
Ben:To be honest, it will take a long time to complete this batch of works and achieve my expected positioning, similar to an engineering project. The art forms and styles I preset are diverse: oil painting, sketching, printmaking, ink painting, sculpture, photography. The expression and expression of each individual's unique characteristics.
I am a problematic man and can only step by step through self-education. I often ask myself repeated questions, challenge myself, think and reason. When I gain judgment and learn about the Tao, that is an incredibly joyful thing!
So, will my next work series repeat my own style? That's hard to say, "Riding a donkey to watch a play and walking around", right?
A: My lord, as far as I know, European art works are all created based on the original appearance of models. So, have your "Four Beauties" works been created according to the methods of European art education?
Ben: Due to the limitations of the conditions at that time, I did not use the method of European model sketching to create. Instead, I adopted a confident creative method of "recalling writing", "silent writing", and "empty bamboo".
Through the inexplicable passage of time, the painting style of ancient Chinese people has inspired me: "Unlike others, the natural charm of heaven". The aesthetic concept of imagery and imagery in Chinese painting has inspired my imagination, allowing me to imagine and explore the present through the ages.
Whenever I work, I listen to Chairman Mao's words: "Use the past for the present, and use the foreign for China."
A: You have drawn several series, including "Heart Lotus Series", "Fish Meaning Series", "Urban Tattoo", and "Ancient Spirit". Each series has a slight change in style, leaning towards a hazy and blurred form. Is it necessary for an artist to form their own "artistic style" in order to have a chance of success?
Smart and confident artists persistently hold onto their own style, discussing enduring battles, occupying high ground, and setting up flagpoles!
Ben:The philosopher Spencer Johnson once said, "The only thing that remains unchanged is change itself." The process of life, through the connection between time and external factors, produces the influence of body and mind, and naturally undergoes changes. The needs of the soul will change, in accordance with the will of heaven. I am both playful and playful, the negation of negation is the final affirmation!
When drawing in youth, remember the motto "don't repeat others, don't repeat yourself". In fact, the most difficult thing to achieve is "don't repeat yourself". Many artists cannot find themselves in their lifetime, and if they have themselves, they must persevere for a lifetime!
The most difficult thing to change in life is "self habits", including behavior, thinking, impurities, strengths, and weaknesses. Of course, "habit becomes nature", why change it!
Art style is formed through the inspiration, development, improvement, and change of predecessors. The so-called artistic originality may only be seen in ancient caves!
A: The unstoppable "contemporary art", with the power of capital, has filled the direction of world art and occupied a share of the art market. Narrowly speaking, does it have an impact or help on your art and the art market?
Ben:In the past, excellent artists led the market, while in the present continuous tense, capital led the market.
European art is critical, revolutionary, and subversive.
Chinese art, inheritance, promotion, and development.
Duchamp's spiritual philosophy opened the mysterious box of art. The emergence of "contemporary art" due to him represents the progress of an era. In the history of Western art, it is natural for every era to have some metaphysical "factional" systems. For artists, "there is no best, only the most suitable."
Whether it is a country or a successful individual, it is necessary to have an independent and independent brand, which is the hard truth!
For me, I don't want to wear someone else's mask and roll around in the fame and fortune market.
I will do my own thing, I will laugh and scold others!
A: Master, why do you prefer a hazy and blurred perspective as your artistic style?
Ben: Laozi talks about "emptiness and tranquility"
It can be said that if you live a transparent life, "your heart can understand, but your eyes don't need to see through." In my opinion, an artist's way of viewing does not require a "true truth", leaving room to fill their dreams. If you see everything in the world clearly, then it means going to another world to satisfy the truth you need.
Perhaps this popular song would be a soothing remedy - "stay half awake, stay half drunk."
