In 1969, “president Mao’s Going to Anyuan” was turned over to the Chinese Revolutionary Museum, becoming a part of their permanent collection. The work symbolizes the image of young Mao Zedong, who was in a bright cloth with a flower hairpin on the head and a flower red umbrella on one hand. The concrete and vivid character indicates that the artist is intentionally contrasting his work to the ideologies of the Cultural Revolution. Mao Zedong has been knocked off from his pedestal in a very human form.
